Job Purpose

Operates in all clinic areas and in-patient areas to conduct echocardiogram (TTE and TEE), stress testing (treadmill, Dobutamine and thallium / Sestamibi with the nuclear imaging), and 24 hour holter (ECG) and BP monitoring procedures. Performs on patients of both sexes and all nationalities, thus ethical and cultural sensitivities are of paramount importance in the way the work is done. Coordinates with the cardiologists and specialists for supervision and reports.

Key Responsibilities And Duties
  • Perform 2D echo Doppler studies on adult, pediatric and neonatal patients and write preliminary results.
  • Notify cardiologists of suspected abnormalities necessitating immediate attention such as pericardial tamponade, cardiac tumors, malfunctioning valve prosthesis and complex congenital heart disease.
  • Prepare reports/videos of patients for official reading of the Consultant Cardiologist.
  • Maintain documentation and down time equipment used in the Echo lab.
  • Maintain statistics, patient record and area monthly report.
  • Report to supervisor / department head any staff problems or malfunction of the echo equipment.
  • Request and obtain outpatient charts on all scheduled patients.
  • Maintain supplies as needed for the examination room.
  • Keep the examination room clean and orderly for patient care, including changing bed sheets.
  • Maintain daily census record of Echo procedures completed.
  • For Trans esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE):
  • Perform pre procedure equipment preparation and sterilization and acquire signed consent form.
  • Take a brief history and physical examination of the disease.
  • Help the patient understand what to expect, alleviate anxiety and enhance compliance during TEE. Also elicits brief drug, allergy, dysphagia or esophageal history.
  • Administer sedation or emergency medications as needed.
  • Advise patient to remove dentures and place mouthpiece.
  • Instruct patient to lie on left lateral المنصب with neck and knee bent forward, swallowing during intubation with nasal breathing.
  • Be alert in monitoring vital signs and complications.
  • Monitor the patient after the procedure at least 1 2 hours for potential complications.
  • Maintain census record of the procedure completed.
  • Perform Stress Test, including Treadmill Exercise Test, Dobutamine Stress Test, Exercise Sestamibi and Presenting Sestamibi.
  • Prior to the test, explain procedure and protocol to the patient, including clothing advice, fasting, consent, support for anxious patients, electrode placement and crash cart readiness.
  • Record ECG in lying and standing المنصبs and take blood pressure in the same المنصبs.
  • Set maximum heart rate target for the patient.
  • Maintain daily census record of the procedure completed.
  • For Holter Monitoring:
  • Explain the test to the patient and close electrodes to skin with adequate preparation and attachment, ensuring 2 channel recording.
  • After 24 hours, disconnect and process the data in computer, scan and save tracings for cardiologist analysis.
  • Maintain daily census record of the procedure completed.
  • For Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring:
  • Explain test and its indication, set machine to record BP every 15-30 minutes during daytime and every 1 2 hours during nighttime.
  • After 24 hours, disconnect, scan data and maintain record.
  • Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments and preventative measures when applicable.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of practical experience.
  • BS in Medical Technology or related medical field.
  • Languages: English and Arabic preferred.
  • License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority (e.g., SCFHS/DHA), ACLS and BLS certifications.
