Position Summary

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial laundry equipment—ranging from washers, dryers, and ironers to steam boilers and related systems. This role involves handling major mechanical components such as drive motors, gearboxes, belts, bearings, pulleys, and conveyors. The ideal candidate has a thorough understanding of mechanical systems, excellent diagnostic skills, and a strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation & Setup
• Install and configure critical mechanical components—including motors, gearboxes, belts, and bearings—within industrial laundry equipment.
• Oversee the assembly and start-up of new or retrofitted machinery, ensuring all installations meet company, safety, and manufacturer specifications.
• Maintenance & Repair
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, alignment checks, and part replacements on washers, dryers, steam boilers, and other laundry systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues—particularly focusing on drive motors, pulleys, conveyor systems, and bearing assemblies—and implement timely repairs.
• Steam Boiler Servicing
• Conduct operational checks and maintenance for steam boilers, ensuring proper pressure settings and safety controls.
• Identify potential issues, recommend corrective actions, and perform necessary repairs or adjustments to maintain optimal boiler performance.
• Safety & Compliance
• Strictly follow industry and company safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repairs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Keep accurate service logs, track parts usage, and complete work orders within established timelines.
• Provide timely, clear feedback to supervisors and team members regarding equipment conditions, identified issues, and recommended solutions.
• Collaboration
• Coordinate with fellow technicians, contractors, and support staff to minimize machinery downtime and streamline workflow.
• Communicate effectively with clients or end-users on equipment functionality and provide guidance on best operating practices.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education & Certification:
• Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
• Boiler operation and maintenance certifications are a plus.
• Technical Expertise:
• Proven experience in mechanical installations and repairs, specifically in industrial laundry systems (washers, dryers, ironers, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of drive motors, gearboxes, rotary belts, bearing assemblies, and steam boiler operations.
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical manuals, and schematic diagrams.
• Practical Knowledge:
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with industrial safety and compliance regulations.
• Welding or fabrication skills are an advantage.
